Ang Tao Te Ching ay nagsasabi: "One produces two, two produces three, three produces all things, all things carry yin and embrace yang, and the interaction of qi creates harmony." Ang Huainan Zi Yuan Dao ay nagsasabi: "Dao produces one, one produces two," dito ang "one" ay tumutukoy sa the general term of qi in the universe. "Two" ay tumutukoy sa yin and yang. Ang Neijing ay nagsasabi: "One yin and one yang is called Dao, bias toward yin or yang is called illness," "Yin and yang are the way of heaven and earth." Ang Miao Zhen Jing ay nagsasabi: "People often lose Dao, not Dao loses people; people often lose life, not life loses people. Therefore, those who practice Dao must never lose Dao; those who practice Dao must never lose life, so that Dao and life stay together, and life and Dao protect each other." The "Dao" is equivalent to the modern philosophical term "natural law" or "natural rule." It explains the evolution of all things in the universe, containing primitive dialectical thought. Therefore, one must follow Dao. Human evolution is achieved by adapting to nature and transforming nature, and understanding how to "coexist" and "protect" between health and Dao, mutually connected and useful, cannot be neglected. The earliest medical text of TCM, Huangdi Neijing, records: "In ancient times, those who understood the Dao followed yin and yang, harmonized with numbers, had moderate eating, regular living, did not overwork, so they could maintain their body and spirit together, and live to the full span of life, reaching a hundred years before passing away; today's people are different, they treat wine as water, madness as normal, drink heavily and engage in sex, exhaust their essence, dissipate their true qi, do not know how to hold on to abundance, do not manage their spirit timely, seek only pleasure, violate the joy of life, live without discipline, so they decline at fifty." This is the ancient principle of health. Pangatlo, ang pag-aalaga ng katawan sa TCM ay mahalaga ang pagpapahalaga sa moral character Ang sikat na thinker at educator sa China, Confucius, has his own way of health: "Virtue enriches the body, benevolent people live long," "those with great virtue will surely live long," a unique concept of health still inspires people today. The "benevolent person" refers to someone with noble character and high reputation. Good interpersonal relationships are the core of "benevolence," and loving others is the essence of benevolence! The theory that "health depends on virtue, virtue leads to longevity" has been proven by medical practice. Cultivating virtue means focusing on the mental health of the body—mental hygiene. TCM has always emphasized mental hygiene. As early as over two thousand years ago, the book Huangdi Neijing said: "Calm and empty, true qi follows, spirit stays within, where would illness come from?" This clearly emphasizes the importance of mental care in health. Those with high virtue have three major characteristics: First, having good interpersonal relationships, which is one of the important signs of physical and mental health. Second, having a kind personality, being honest, open-minded, optimistic, firm will, and rich emotions. Third, having good social adaptability, able to correctly understand oneself and adapt to complex social environments. As the ancient saying goes: "A good doctor must first heal the heart, then the body." With the shift in medical models and healthcare services, the modern concept of health can be divided into three aspects: physical health, mental health (spiritual health), and good social adaptation, forming a comprehensive concept of health. Correctly understanding mental hygiene includes not only cultivating healthy personality traits but also maintaining a good mental state to improve the quality of spiritual life. Pang-apat, pag-aalaga ng katawan at detoxification Modern toxicology believes that any small substance entering the human body can cause chemical and physicochemical reactions with body tissues, disrupt normal physiological functions, and cause temporary or permanent pathological states, and such substances are called toxins. They include external toxins and endogenous toxins. External toxins include bacteria, viruses, pesticides, fertilizers, drugs, air pollution, water pollution, heavy metal pollution, electromagnetic wave pollution, noise pollution, etc. Endogenous toxins refer to waste products accumulated during metabolism that regenerate as toxins. TCM believes that "toxins" invading the body can obstruct qi movement, consume blood and qi, destroy the normal functioning of organs, meridians, qi, and blood, leading to diseases and aging. Modern medical research shows that long-term accumulation of toxins in the body inevitably leads to functional disorders of various tissues and cells, causing numerous harms to the human body. It can lead to various diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, digestive and urinary system diseases, and damage the immune system, seriously threatening human health. To achieve disease prevention, strength enhancement, and health maintenance, it is necessary to adopt detoxification methods to minimize the harm caused by toxins to the body. Detoxification refers to the process of eliminating toxins and keeping the detoxification pathways clear and unobstructed. Especially maintaining the smoothness of the digestive tract, whether bowel movements are regular is an important indicator of whether there is an obstacle in the digestive tract and detoxification pathway. Because from a medical perspective, defecation through bowel movements is the most direct and effective way. The ancient Chinese physician Ge Hong said: "If you want to live long, keep your intestines clean; if you want to be immortal, keep your intestines free of feces." This illustrates that defecation is key to longevity. Detoxification means neutralizing and resolving toxins. It has two meanings: first, directly neutralizing and resolving toxins using drugs; second, indirectly detoxifying by utilizing the body's own regulatory functions to achieve toxin neutralization and resolution. Pang-apat, ang pag-aalaga ng katawan sa TCM at ang estado ng sub-health What is sub-health? Based on the modern medical standard of health and disease, the intermediate state between health and disease is called sub-health, also known as the third state of the body. The concept of TCM health embodies the preventive idea of "treating the disease before it occurs." The concept of "not yet sick" is similar to today's sub-health state, but they are not the same. Because the concept of "not yet sick" in TCM itself includes four aspects: preventing disease before it occurs, changing the condition after illness, treating disease early, and managing the remission phase of chronic disease. Since TCM health aims to prevent disease and strengthen health, it necessarily can improve the sub-health state of the body. Approximately half of the population is in a sub-health state, which is a wide-ranging and significant topic worthy of study. The development of sub-health has two possible paths: one is transformation towards health, and the other is transformation towards disease. TCM health aims to promote the body's transition towards a healthy state (including mental health). Pang-anim, concluding remarks TCM health not only includes behavioral health, environmental health, exercise health, dietary health, and many other cultural aspects, but more importantly, health must follow Dao, health values virtue, and must adopt detoxification and detoxification measures to promote the transformation of sub-health into a healthy state of body and mind, thereby achieving the goal of TCM health—strengthening the body, preventing disease, and delaying aging. With the establishment of concepts such as "pre-disease" and sub-health, combined with TCM health practices such as herbal medicine, dietary therapy, qigong, daoyin, and massage, reasonably improving people's diet and nutrition structure, further enhancing self-health awareness, all play a crucial role in improving and adjusting the sub-health state of the body. Due to changes in the era and social development, the connotation and extension of "health" and "healthcare" have deepened and expanded, truly reflecting that the meaning of "health" and "healthcare" is no longer just treating diseases, but promoting human health, improving quality of life, and preventing diseases. Thus, everyone can enjoy a high-quality, vibrant, meaningful life.
