Dietary principles after induced abortion After an induced abortion, proper balance in quantity, quality, and combination of various foods must still be maintained to meet the body’s needs for protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, inorganic salts, water, and fiber. To promote recovery, dietary adjustments should focus on the following points: (1) Protein is a key component of antibodies; inadequate intake reduces immunity. Within two weeks post-abortion, protein intake should be 1.5–2 grams per kilogram of body weight daily, approximately 100–150 grams. Thus, include more chicken, lean pork, eggs, dairy, and soy products. (2) After surgery, the body is weak and prone to sweating. Hydration should be taken in small, frequent amounts to reduce fluid loss. Sweating excretes water-soluble vitamins, especially vitamin C, B1, and B2. Therefore, increase intake of fresh vegetables and fruits. This also helps prevent constipation. (3) Moderately limit fat intake on a regular diet. Fat intake should be around 80 grams per day during the first week. Women with irregular menstruation should avoid stimulants like chili, alcohol, vinegar, pepper, ginger, as these can cause genital congestion and increased menstrual flow. Also avoid cold foods like crab, freshwater snails, and clams. Dietary nourishment after abortion Post-abortion dietary care is crucial for women's health. Abortion damages the body, results in blood loss, and brings psychological stress and physical pain, leaving the body weakened. Some may even develop anemia. Therefore, appropriate nourishment is essential. The extent and duration of nourishment should be determined by individual constitution and blood loss. First, ensure adequate intake of high-quality protein, sufficient vitamins, and inorganic salts, especially iron to prevent anemia. Food choices should be nutritious and easy to digest. Include fresh fish, tender chicken, eggs, animal liver, animal blood, lean meat, soy products, dairy, jujubes, lotus seeds, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Avoid or limit greasy, raw, cold foods. Do not eat radishes, hawthorn, bitter melon, oranges, or other foods with qi-regulating, blood-activating, or cold properties. Focus on easily digestible foods. A nourishment period of about two weeks is ideal; for those who are weak, have poor constitution, or lost significant blood, extend the period appropriately.
