Do you find yourself looking dull and lifeless, with dark circles under your eyes and lackluster hair right after taking off your makeup? This might be due to kidney deficiency. Yesterday, reporters learned from several local hospitals that due to increased modern female stress and weakened immunity, more young women are suffering from kidney weakness and inflammation. Kidney deficiency, once typically seen in older adults, is now silently affecting younger women. Professor Deng Yueyi, director of the Nephrology Department at Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, reported that currently, female patients aged 30–50 dominate in nephrology clinics, especially office workers or those in suboptimal health. Office women remain in poorly ventilated air-conditioned environments year-round, lacking distinct seasons, and often in oxygen-deficient conditions, weakening the kidneys. Additionally, harmful substances in air-conditioned rooms—like carbon dioxide and toxic dust—can trigger immune dysfunction in organs such as the kidneys, potentially leading to nephritis over time. Modern women face unprecedented competitive pressures, irregular lifestyles, and are among the most emotionally unstable groups. Prolonged sadness weakens immunity, possibly leading to gradual kidney deficiency. Meanwhile, frequent consumption of fast food results in unbalanced nutrition and excessive calories, causing overheating in the kidneys and reduced resistance. Reporters learned that signs of kidney deficiency manifest from head to toe. Typically, kidney-deficient individuals have dull hair, dry mouth, grayish complexion, some with dark circles, frequent sore throats, and post-fatigue lower back and knee weakness. Other symptoms include frequent nighttime urination, urgency, morning diarrhea, cold sensitivity in winter, menstrual irregularities, dizziness, weakness, and lower abdominal pain. Doctors emphasize that upon noticing these symptoms, one must not seek treatment haphazardly. Many kidney diseases stem from unclear personal constitution, lack of professional diagnosis, and misuse or overuse of supplements, disrupting internal balance. Young white-collar workers should avoid overwork and staying up late, maintain regular routines, enhance inner cultivation, and stay happy to prevent emotional extremes. Regularly eat calcium-rich foods like bone broth, or cooling foods such as yam, lotus seeds, honeysuckle, mung beans, chrysanthemum, and fish soup.
