Chăm sóc sức khỏe bằng tắm chân Foot bathing means soaking feet in water—a traditional health-preserving method passed down through generations in Chinese folk culture. A folk song says: "Washing feet in spring, raises yang energy and stabilizes essence; in summer, removes heat and dampness; in autumn, moistens lungs and intestines; in winter, warms the lower abdomen." Clearly, since ancient times, "a basin of warm water before bedtime" has been regarded as an effective health-preserving measure. Traditional Chinese medicine holds that the foot is the starting point of the three yin meridians (spleen, liver, kidney) and the endpoint of the three yang meridians (stomach, gallbladder, bladder), closely related to the five zang and six fu organs. Foot bathing promotes blood circulation, clears foot meridians, helps relieve fatigue, and improves sleep. There are two types: hot and cold foot baths, each chosen according to individual needs. Hot foot bath: Use water around 50°C, soaking feet up to the ankle, for about 20 minutes each time. This is equivalent to moxibustion with mugwort on foot acupoints, promoting blood and qi flow and warming internal organs. Stimulating skin nerve endings through hot water activates feedback via the central nervous system, regulating internal organ function, boosting metabolism, and benefiting health. In winter, hot foot baths promote local circulation, preventing frostbite. After long walks or intense exercise, hot foot baths reduce local lactic acid accumulation, aiding fatigue relief. Soaking feet in hot water before sleep gently stimulates the central nervous system, promoting cerebral cortex inhibition, helping one fall asleep peacefully. Cold foot bath: Gradually lower water temperature, starting from around 20°C down to about 4°C. Begin in autumn and continue through winter. Before each session, rub feet until warm, then immerse both feet in cold water, rubbing them against each other until the skin turns red. Each session lasts about 5 minutes, ideally twice daily—morning and evening. Cold foot baths strongly constrict foot blood vessels and place the entire body’s systems into active physiological states under neural and humoral regulation. They also raise nasal mucosa temperature, enhancing respiratory resistance and preventing colds in winter. However, after cold foot baths, dry and keep warm immediately.
