Maagap na Tagumpay: May Kaukulang “Pagsusukli sa Lamig”

In early autumn, summer heat hasn’t fully dissipated, so temperatures remain high—there’s no need to worry about “cold exposure.” But in mid-autumn, temperatures begin to drop, becoming cool yet not severely cold—this is the ideal time for “autumn cold.” Especially for young adults, clothing should be controlled intentionally to let the body experience slight cold, avoiding overheating and sweating, which deplete yin and qi. In late autumn, weather changes drastically, with increasing day-night differences. Especially during the transition from autumn to winter, strong cold fronts often arrive suddenly, causing sharp temperature drops. Continuing to insist on “autumn cold” at this point would backfire.
Due to geographical differences, northern and southern regions vary in climate. Generally, southern areas experience delayed cooling, with small daily temperature fluctuations—even remaining relatively warm into winter. Thus, there’s no need to add clothes quickly, and “autumn cold” can be extended. Northern regions, however, turn cold abruptly with large diurnal variations. Avoid blindly pursuing “cold exposure” to prevent catching cold.
From a human perspective, children are “tender yin and yang,” still developing, with poor self-regulation. Cold stimuli can quickly trigger adverse reactions, leading to acute bronchitis, pneumonia, and other illnesses. Elderly people have depleted yin and yang, weakened overall resistance, and reduced ability to withstand cold. Cold can cause bronchial and vascular spasms, easily triggering relapses of chronic bronchitis, asthma, and even angina or myocardial infarction in coronary patients, or stroke in hypertensive individuals. Therefore, children and elderly people must be extremely cautious with “autumn cold.”
