Walnut kernel, also known as walnut, hu tao, hu tao rou, and wan sui zi. Sweet taste, warm nature. It has functions such as tonifying the kidneys and enhancing yang, strengthening the waist and knees, warming the lungs to relieve asthma, and moistening the intestines to relieve constipation. According to "Kai Bao Ben Cao," it "makes people healthy and plump, moisturizes the skin and darkens the hair." According to "Bencao Gangmu," it "tonifies qi and blood, moistens dryness and transforms phlegm, nourishes the life gate, clears the three burners, warms the lungs and moistens the intestines, treats deficiency-cold asthma and cough, and heavy lower back pain." Widely used in folk medicine; below are some selected applications: 1. Frequent urination due to kidney deficiency: 2–3 walnuts, roasted until soft in ash, remove the kernel, chew slowly before bedtime, take with moderate amount of yellow wine, once daily for 5–7 days. 2. Nervous exhaustion: 30 grams each of walnut kernels and black sesame seeds, 60 grams of mulberry leaves, all ground into a paste and made into pills (each pill weighs 3 grams). Take 3 pills twice daily. 3. Tinnitus and lower back pain due to kidney deficiency: 2 walnut kernels, 7 goji berries, 20 schisandra berries. Chew finely before bedtime, take with honey water, once nightly for 5–7 days. 4. Urinary tract stones 1: Equal amounts of walnut kernels, rock sugar, and sesame oil. First, heat the sesame oil, add walnut kernels, fry until brown, remove and grind into powder, return to the pot, then add rock sugar powder, cook into a paste. Take 3 times daily, 2 tablespoons each time. Continue use. 5. Habitual constipation: 60 grams walnut kernels, 30 grams black sesame seeds, both ground into powder. Take 1 spoonful in the morning and evening with warm water. Effective for long-term constipation when taken continuously. 6. Spleen-kidney deficiency-related cough and shortness of breath: 10 grams walnut kernels, 10 grams ginseng, 5 grams schisandra berries. Boil in water and drink the decoction. Twice daily. 7. Chronic cough and asthma due to dual deficiency of the kidneys and waist: 250 grams each of walnut kernels and stir-fried sweet apricot kernels. First boil apricot kernels in water for 1 hour, then add walnut kernels. When the liquid is nearly evaporated, add 500 grams honey, mix well and bring to boil. Take once daily, 10 grams per dose. 8. Impotence: 50 grams walnut kernels, first fry in sesame oil until golden brown, then add chopped fresh leeks, stir-fry with salt, eat with meals as desired. Once or twice daily. 9. Bronchial asthma: 1–2 walnut kernels, 1–2 slices of ginger, chew thoroughly in mouth, once in the morning and once in the evening. 10. Chronic bronchitis: 25 grams walnut kernels, grind into powder, mix with sugar and consume. Long-term consistent use is effective. 12. Excessive vaginal discharge: 10 walnut leaves, 2 eggs, boil with water, drink the broth and eat the eggs. 13. Hair loss: 6 walnut kernels, 100 grams fresh cypress leaf, 9 melon seeds. Crush all three ingredients together, soak in 1500 ml well water for 3 days, wash hair daily 12 times, continue for 3 days. 14. Otitis media: First clean ear canal pus with hydrogen peroxide, then drop 2–3 drops of walnut oil, twice or thrice daily. 15. Carbuncles: Crush walnut kernels and apply directly to affected area, change dressing twice daily. 16. Lymph node tuberculosis: 30 grams fresh young walnut branches, 30 grams fresh yarrow. Boil in water and drink as tea, three times daily. 17. Vomiting: Roast 1 walnut until charred, grind into fine powder. For those with cold stomach, take with ginger tea; for those with hot stomach, take with decoction of 12 grams scutellaria root. Twice daily. 18. Cervical cancer: 30 grams walnut tree branches, 4 eggs. Wash and chop branches, add water and eggs, boil until eggs are cooked. Remove shells and boil for another 4 hours. Eat 2 eggs per serving, twice daily, continuous intake. Caution: Not suitable for those with yin deficiency and fire excess, phlegm-heat cough, or loose stools.
