Then firmly pinch Feng Chi and Jian Jing, followed by rubbing Zhong Fu, Feng Men, Feng Chi, Fei Yu (each for 1–2 minutes), then rub upper back for 1–2 minutes, finally pinch the Lung and Large Intestine channels 1–2 times. Heat Transformation Type: Rub Yin Tang, Tai Yang, Ying Xiang, separate and push forehead, then rub from shoulder down the Large Intestine and Lung channels toward fingertips 1–2 times, focusing on Qu Chi, Chi Ze, Wai Guan, He Gu, Yu Ji, pinch Feng Chi, then firmly rub Zhong Fu, Tian Tu, Dan Zhong, pinch Jian Jing, massage upper back for 1–2 minutes, and point press Da Zhi, Fei Yu (each for 1–2 minutes), clap upper back to shoulders 5 times, and along the Governor and Bladder channels from upper back to waist, clap 5 times. Therapeutic Principles For Wind-Cold Type: Rubbing Yin Tang and Ying Xiang, pushing forehead, can relieve headache and open nasal passages; rubbing Fei Yu and Zhong Fu (the Luo point of the Lung, intersection of Hand and Foot Tai Yin channels) combines Shu-Luo points, which ventilates the lung and releases exterior, stops cough, and clears nasal congestion; rubbing Feng Men (intersection of Bladder channel and Governor Vessel) disperses wind, stops cough, removes heat, and relieves headache and neck stiffness; rubbing and pinching Feng Men, Feng Chi (intersection of Lesser Yang and Yang Wei vessels), and Jian Jing (intersection of Lesser Yang and Yang Wei vessels) can release exterior, dispel cold, and relieve headache and neck pain; rubbing He Gu (original point of the Large Intestine channel) and Wai Guan (Eight Converging Points) can disperse wind and heat, relax tendons, and enhance the effect of releasing exterior. For Heat Transformation Type: Point pressing Da Zhi (meeting point of all Yang channels) can promote the flow of Yang energy, providing good fever reduction; rubbing Feng Chi can disperse wind and heat, release exterior; rubbing Qu Chi (He point of the Large Intestine channel) and He Gu can drain lung heat, relieve cough, and eliminate sore throat; rubbing Dan Zhong (intersection of Hand and Foot Yang Ming channels) and Tian Tu (intersection of Yin Wei and Conception Vessel) can stop cough and eliminate sore throat. Chinese massage therapy for common cold can cure mild cases in 3–4 sessions. During operation, avoid exposure to wind and cold. Patients should also pay attention to keeping warm in diet and lifestyle, drink plenty of water, and avoid overexertion. Since massage therapy generally has no adverse reactions, this method is especially suitable for children, elderly, and those preparing for pregnancy.
