“Con không muốn tiêm, con không muốn uống thuốc!…” Whenever children have indigestion or loss of appetite, their crying often leaves parents helpless. But did you know there's a method that allows children to recover without medication or injections? This is the pediatric "bấm tích" method, which inherits over 150 years of Chinese massage tradition and integrates modern techniques. Based on traditional Chinese medicine theories such as yin-yang, wu xing (Five Elements), and meridian systems, this method involves pinching and lifting along the Du Meridian and bladder meridian points on the child’s back to regulate yin and yang. Dr. Zheng Jun, head of pediatrics at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, says: “TCM believes the abdomen is yin, the back is yang. The Du Meridian runs centrally along the back—yang within yang—and stimulating it boosts yang energy. Visceral organs are connected to points on the bladder meridian; thus, massaging this meridian stimulates organ points. Therefore, bấm tích effectively treats pediatric indigestion, diarrhea, poor spleen-stomach function, slow growth, and developmental delays. Years of research and clinical studies confirm that bấm tích can improve anemia, increase appetite, strengthen the body, and even affect the nervous system to treat infant night crying. Compared with Western medicine, bấm tích requires no injections or pills, reducing patient suffering.” Dr. Zheng notes that a full course of bấm tích lasts six consecutive days, with 10 rounds of pinching each day—always done in the morning because yang energy rises then, enhancing effectiveness. Usually, after three to four days, children who previously refused food begin feeling hungry. Of course, treatment varies based on individual conditions. Doctors tailor methods according to the child’s condition—for example, stool consistency—using internal remedies like Feng’s Xiaoji San and external ointments like Feng’s Huayu Gao, combined with manual manipulation. Some children may also receive auxiliary massage therapy. Beyond digestive issues, bấm tích shows good results for respiratory system disorders in children.
