Liufangteng Medicinal Wine

Liufangteng Medicinal Wine [Drug Composition] 100g of Liufangteng root (Rhizome), appropriate amount of baijiu
[Indications and Functions] Expels wind and dampness. Used for rheumatoid arthritis.
[Dosage and Administration] Oral. 5–15ml each time, three times daily; reduce dosage for children.
[Preparation Method] Clean the Liufangteng root with a brush, cut into small pieces (or crush into coarse powder), place in container, add three-quarters of the total baijiu, seal and soak for three days, filter out the liquid. Add appropriate amount of baijiu and soak again for two days, filter. Combine all three filtrates, mix well, let settle for three days, filter again, add baijiu to make up to 1000ml, resulting in a brownish transparent liquid where 1ml equals 0.1g of raw herb.

Comment: This preparation has high toxicity; do not take in excess. Contraindicated for pregnant women, patients with kidney disease, and those who are physically weak. Use with caution in patients with hypertension or heart disease. Avoid sour, cold, fishy, and bean foods. Toxic symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and suppression of respiration and heartbeat. Mild cases may be treated with tea water; moderate cases require gastric lavage and injection of caffeine or doxapram stimulants; severe cases require injection of fangji toxin or digitalis.
