Bark of jujube tree decoction for diarrhea

My daughter had diarrhea last winter, and despite trying multiple treatments, there was no significant improvement. Later, a senior traditional Chinese doctor at the county hospital advised me to use the bark of a jujube tree grown for many years—100–150g—wash thoroughly, add sufficient water, and boil for 30 minutes to obtain about 200ml of liquid, which she drank in one go. To my surprise, it worked immediately that same day, and after taking it two or three times, she was fully recovered. Since then, whenever I hear colleagues suffering from diarrhea, I recommend this remedy, and they have all praised its effectiveness.
Comment: Diarrhea is a common clinical condition with diverse causes such as cold-damp diarrhea, damp-heat diarrhea, food injury diarrhea, liver depression with spleen deficiency diarrhea, spleen deficiency diarrhea, and kidney yang deficiency diarrhea. Treatment must be based on differentiation of syndrome. The single remedy described here uses jujube tree bark, which is cool in nature and sour and slightly bitter in taste. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, sour can tighten and astringe, bitter can dry dampness, and cool can clear heat. Therefore, using jujube tree bark decoction in one dose (i.e., drinking all at once) to treat diarrhea due to excessive dampness should be effective, but may be less effective for other types of diarrhea.
