Persistent lochia after childbirth Persistent lochia after childbirth refers to lochia continuing for more than 20 days without stopping. The cause is disorder of Chong and Ren channels, abnormal blood and qi circulation. However, clinically there are distinctions between qi deficiency, blood heat, and blood stasis. Effective traditional remedies are mainly as follows. [Formula One] 30 grams of "De Li Cao" (if unavailable, substitute with 30 grams Dang Shen and 60 grams Huang Qi), 10 eggs, 30 grams brown sugar. First boil De Li Cao (or substitute) to extract liquid, filter out residue, then combine filtrate, brown sugar, and eggs, boil until eggs are cooked. Eat 2–3 eggs daily; can prepare again after consumption. This formula is suitable for persistent lochia due to qi deficiency after childbirth. [Formula Two] 10 grams ginseng, one clean black-boned chicken, a little salt. Soak ginseng until soft, slice, place inside chicken cavity, put in clay pot, add salt, steam over water until chicken is tender, eat meat and drink soup, two to three times daily. This formula is suitable for persistent lochia due to qi deficiency after childbirth. [Formula Three] 100 grams fresh lotus juice, 20 grams sugar. First extract juice from fresh tender lotus, refrigerate for later use, then mix sugar into juice, drink cold. This formula is suitable for persistent lochia due to blood heat after childbirth. [Formula Four] 30 grams of Xian He Cao and Yi Mu Cao, 10 grams brown sugar. First concentrate boil the two herbs, filter out residue, take filtrate, add brown sugar, boil for 1–2 bubbles, then consume. Take two to three times daily. This remedy can be used for persistent lochia due to blood stasis. [Formula Five] 60 grams of whole plant of Xiao Ji, 60 grams Yi Mu Cao. Wash both, add water and decoct into tea, filter out residue, further reduce to thick consistency for consumption. This formula is suitable for unstable lochia due to blood stasis.
