Comprehensive Treatment for Postpartum Hemorrhagic Syncope Postpartum hemorrhagic syncope refers to sudden dizziness and blurred vision, inability to sit up, or chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, phlegm accumulation, shortness of breath, restlessness, severe cases may include clenched teeth, unconsciousness, and loss of consciousness. In traditional Chinese medicine, postpartum hemorrhagic syncope is mainly caused by excessive blood loss during childbirth, leading to depletion of nourishing blood and qi following blood loss; it can also be due to exposure to cold during childbirth, causing blood to congeal and stagnate, resulting in obstruction of qi and blood rising upward, disturbing the mind and causing syncope. For treatment of postpartum hemorrhagic syncope, shock must be managed first, followed by treatment based on symptom classification once the condition stabilizes. For syncope due to qi deficiency and collapse, main symptoms include dizziness, blurred vision, unconsciousness, pale lips, grayish face, palpitations, cold limbs, and profuse sweating. Treatment should focus on replenishing qi and blood, strengthening qi and consolidating the essence. Formulas such as Ding Kun Dan or Dang Shen Tang are recommended. If sweating and cold limbs occur, use Shen Fu Tang to restore yang and rescue from collapse; if bleeding continues, add scorched ginger to Shen Fu Tang to stop bleeding. Other dietary therapies can also be used, such as Huang Qi Porridge: Take 20 grams of astragalus, add 200 ml of water, boil down to 100 ml, remove residue and keep juice. Cook 50 grams of rice into porridge, add the medicinal juice and appropriate red sugar before serving, cook briefly. Take twice daily, morning and evening. Alternatively, use Longan Seed and Date Heart Soup: 10 grams of longan, 12 grams of lotus seed, 10 grams of stir-fried sour jujube seed, all boiled together, strain and drink the liquid, one dose daily for five days. For syncope due to blood stasis and qi obstruction, main symptoms include no lochia or minimal lochia, intermittent abdominal pain that resists pressure, even chest tightness, rapid breathing, unconsciousness, clenched fists, locked jaw, dark complexion, purple lips and tongue. Treatment should focus on promoting blood circulation and removing stasis. Use Duo Ming San with added angelica and ligusticum. If there is chest tightness and nausea, add Pinellia to descend counterflow and resolve phlegm. Other dietary therapies can also be used, such as Buddha’s Hand Hawthorn Corydalis Soup: 6 grams of Buddha’s hand, 10 grams of hawthorn, 6 grams of corydalis, decoct and drink, one dose daily. Peach Kernel Porridge: 15 grams of peach kernel crushed, soaked in water, filtered to retain juice. Cook 50 grams of rice into porridge, add peach kernel juice and a little red sugar when the porridge is half-cooked, cook until done, eat in the morning. Black Bean Safflower Soup: 30 grams of black beans, 6 grams of safflower, boil together, filter out the residue, mix with 50 grams of red sugar and warm, drink once daily.
