Huanglong Tang 2 【Source】Shanghan Liushu, Vol. 3. 【Composition】Dahuang, Mangxiao each 3 grams, Zhi Shi, Houpu, Renshen, Danggui each 2.4 grams, Gancao 2 grams 【Usage】Use 400 ml water, add 3 slices of ginger, 2 jujubes, decoct, then add Jiegeng, boil once more, take hot. 【Function】Clear heat, purge downward, tonify Qi, nourish blood. 【Indications】Dry heat in intestines and stomach, both Qi and blood deficiency. Passing clear water diarrhea, confusion, delirium, abdominal pain with resistance to pressure, fever with thirst, fatigue, weak breath, yellow or black scorched tongue coating, deep fine rapid pulse. 【Additions】For elderly with deficient Qi and blood, remove Mangxiao. 【Discussion】The formula uses Dachengqi Tang’s Dahuang, Mangxiao, Zhi Shi, and Houpu to quickly purge intestinal heat and preserve body fluids; Renshen and Danggui jointly tonify Qi and blood to strengthen the body and assist in eliminating pathogens; Jiegeng promotes lung function and opens the large intestine; ginger, jujube, and Gancao harmonize stomach Qi and balance other herbs—collectively achieving a balanced effect of reinforcing the body while purging. |
