Hei Xiao Yao San 【Source】From "Yizong Jiren Bian" Volume 1. 【Composition】Bupleurum, White Peony Root, Angelica sinensis, White Atractylodes, Poria, Licorice, Rehmannia glutinosa 【Usage】Use ginger and large dates as guides, decoct in water and take orally. 【Function】Nourish blood, soothe liver, strengthen spleen, harmonize center. 【Indications】Liver depression with blood deficiency, costal pain and dizziness, or epigastric pain radiating to heart region, shoulder blade pain, or eye redness and pain extending to solar plexus; also for women suffering emotional injury to liver causing uncontrolled bleeding, red or white vaginal discharge, sand-like dysuria, metrorrhagia, or leukorrhea. 【Additions】For blood heat, add Cortex Moutan; for yin deficiency, add Oyster Shell. 【Discussion】This formula is derived from the "Ju Fang" Xiao Yao San by adding Rehmannia glutinosa. In this formula, Rehmannia glutinosa, Angelica sinensis, and White Peony Root nourish yin and blood, soften the liver and relieve urgency—these are the sovereign herbs; White Atractylodes, Poria, ginger, and large dates tonify qi, strengthen spleen, and harmonize stomach—these are minister herbs; Bupleurum disperses liver stagnation—this is an auxiliary herb; Licorice harmonizes all herbs—this is the messenger herb. Together, they balance qi and blood, treat both liver and spleen, achieving the effect of nourishing blood, soothing liver, and harmonizing the center. |
